The Orlando Magic officially became a member of the NBA in 1989 as an expansion team. Notwithstanding a group of players that contained Scott Skiles, Nick Anderson, Otis Smith, Reggie Theus and Sam Vincent, Orlandowent just 18-64 in their opening season. Their struggles would allow them to select Dennis Scott with the 4th overall selection in 1990.
