They are initially created for military purposes but are now commercially available for civilian uses. They are used for law implementation, security and safety, in aviation, land and naval routing, business assistance, and even as an amusing pastime on the Internet.

Many vehicles, whether privately owned or for public utility, have a GPS tracking device nowadays. Although the most identifiable type is the one with a small touchscreen monitor that literally tells drivers the directions, there are many different forms and types of a GPS tracker. Not all are in a portable small box. Other types are barely discernible inside a gadget.

The most common commercial GPS tracker type, however, is a real time tracking device that is seen in our vehicles and cell phones, which depend on a GPS satellite to transfer their data to a server. This active tracking type is mostly used for trailing goods and hunting people. There is also the passive type that simply stores the venue and other data in the receiver. This is frequently used by bikers, joggers, or other people who wish to record their distance covered, or by authorities to record an automobile\’s location or to monitor a person for whatsoever purpose it may help them.
