When you are making kitchen design plans, you usually take into consideration all the appliances that you need to purchase, and then choose which among them are the best and know where and how you are going to store them.

For those large and major appliances, like refrigerator and stove, several kitchens have already had the spaces built for these. However, for some other appliances, knowing where to put them can be quite a challenge. This would usually depend on how big the space of your kitchen is. Storage space is usually a problem on small kitchens, so you need to look for the most effective solutions for this, depending on the kind of appliances that you plan on buying for your kitchen.

Let\’s take a look at some common situations and how to solve them:

Maybe you would like to buy a separate oven without a stovetop, in addition to whatever you have already. One place to put it is instead of a cupboard, built in with your kitchen cabinets. It usually only takes up the space of one cabinet, so you are not losing too much in terms of storage, and this way you don\’t need to look for extra space. Similarly, if you want to fit extra burners, you can fit them into one of your countertops or on the top of a kitchen island, if you have enough space to build one.

What about a microwave? The problem with this is that it can take up counter space, which is not very practical in a small kitchen. The answer to this is to make use of your walls. If you can, build a shelf on the wall that it can sit on, or you can even set it into the cabinets like the oven mentioned above. But before you do, work out who is going to use it. For example, if you want your children to have access to it, you should work out the height accordingly.

Dishwasher? No, this is not about your husband, nor the maid. If you do not have the space to put a dishwasher on, well, you better sacrifice one of the lower kitchen cupboards in order to fit the dishwasher in. Carefully consider if you could really afford to give up several cupboards for this purpose. Because if not, then it is probably better for you to put the washing machine on a utility balcony, in your bathroom or on the corridor, so you won\’t lose a lot of storage space.

And if you\’re wondering where and how you could buy kitchen appliances? This would actually depend much on your budget. If you have enough funds to buy new ones, then this is the best option to do. But remember to buy those that come with insurance. If you do not have enough funds though, you better consider buying those reconditioned refrigerators and ovens, although you need to make sure that you only buy them from reputable places that would show you some certification that such appliances were repaired well enough.
