The workout of the day is a feature of CrossFit. Workouts feature the Workout of the Day or WOD, which is posted on the web and adaptable to suit individual exercise goals. Typical exercise routines are either three days on to every one day of rest, or five days on for every two days of rest. The rest periods are similar to those incorporated in traditional weight lifting programs, to give your body a chance to build rest, recover and build lean muscle.
This is a Generalized Fitness Approach. CrossFit is unique in that the goal is to promote overall fitness, rather than focusing on one or two specialized areas, as in a workout with universal weight machines. Anyone from beginner to expert can benefit from the CrossFit program as exercise routines are adaptable to any fitness level. This weight intensive program challenges its participants.
Typical exercises can include: air squat, back squat, ball slam, glut-ham sit up, kipping pull up, handstand, rope climbing, l-sit, and push jerk to name a few. A typical workout includes a number of sets of groups of exercise such as: 5 Pull-ups, 10 Push-ups and 15 Squats. The goal is to complete as many sets as you possibly can during a 20-minute time frame. CrossFit combines the intensity of a circuit workout with the fun of kickboxing and the simplicity of P90X to give you great results.
The CrossFit approach capitalizes on the strengths and weakness of all types of athletic endeavors. It builds endurance typical of a long-distance runner, flexibility attributed to a gymnast, and the strength of a weight lifter to create one program that produces a superior overall level of fitness. While P90X claims to use some of these principles, it does not use the full range of exercises offered by CrossFit.
Once at the advanced level, exercise enthusiasts give it their all, working out at greatest intensity for best result. Advanced equipment can incorporate commercial gym equipment, although most equipment can still be purchased for the home gym environment. This can be done on your own time without the competition at home. Many people are more comfortable working out on their own, but for a more detailed program like CrossFit a session is suggested for instruction first.
