Out on the golf course, power and distance is the name of the game. You have to be maximizing your clubhead speed while still maintaining accurate ball striking and to do that you must have a total full shoulder turn. What this implies is that your shoulders should turn about 90 degrees so they are square to the target while your hips turn close to 45. This creates a rubber-band effect that is called torque.
Flexibility
Stretching is important if you want to improve the revolution in your swing. You may be able to make a full turn without feeling a tightening on your body. You need to work on your core rotary flexibility and do lots of back and hip stretches that may help you to make a better rotation with your swing. You need to do some light stretching almost every day till your body begins to loosen up.
Straightforward Drills
A pretty simple drill you can do either outside or inside is to take a club and lay it across the head of your back with both of your hands gripping the club. Then get down in your position and make a standard turn. You should be able to notice that your club is straight up and down to the ground.
Another method is to lay your club straight up and back down by your outside foot (right handed golfers, this is the right foot). Lay your club in between your elbows as you fold your arms towards your shoulders. As you make a finished shoulder turn, the 2 clubs should line up.
When you get a complete shoulder turn you build up torque. Then as your start your downswing and the hips begin to turn it forces the top half of your body to turn with them. This enables you to swing the club thru that quicker.
