Security solutions for your trailer

Whether your trailer is for personal or business use you\’ll want to make sure you have sufficient security solutions in place to ensure that criminals cannot target it. There are plenty of security options available from alarms to locks as well as ways to recover your trailer should it be stolen.

Alarms are a great start if your trailer doesn\’t already have one. A variety of alarms are available and you might even consider using more than one. Alarms that sense people\’s movement can be used to alert you to when people are lurking around your trailer. Such an alarm should have criminals fleeing before they can even lay a finger on your trailer. An alarm that is set off when it detects that it is moving is another way of leaving criminals at the centre of attention if they try to tow your trailer away.

There are many locks available on the market, with different levels of effectiveness. Lock systems that are placed on the inside of your trailer are always more effective as a criminal cannot reach them and so things like handsaws become powerless. You might also want to consider using locks on rear wheels to stop trailers being towed away.

While tracking systems will not prevent your trailer from being stolen, it will allow you to pinpoint its location, helping you to recover your trailer and hopefully its possessions. They will also not stop thieves from being able to steal the contents of your trailer. While you should not rely on tracking systems alone, they can supplement other security solutions.

If you can see inside your trailer make sure you remove any valuables when it is left by itself if at all possible. If you cannot see the contents of a trailer a simple sticker stating valuables are taken out may dissuade a criminal from targeting your trailer – considering the cost is negligible it can\’t hurt to do this.
